A year ago, Atlanta Country Day School began the application process for a very important accreditation. We are proud to announce that ACDS has received accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI)!

Back in February, a team of reviewers from SACS spent 2 days with our school – students, parents and teachers – at the end of which we were notified that they would be recommending us for their seal of approval.

What does this mean? Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance in public and private education. We are also accredited by the Georgia Accreditation Commission (GAC – http://www.coe.uga.edu/gac/). Accreditation from the SACS association means that we are recognized as adhering to their stringent guidelines and that we are committed to continuous improvement. It also means that a highly respected non-governmental agency which is responsible for the accreditation of many of our best schools agrees that we are among the best. For more information about SACS and AdvancED accreditation, please go to the following site: http://www.advanc-ed.org/parents_and_public/.

You might be asking yourself, what are the benefits to my children? The SACS website has this response:

“Students who attend a school accredited by NCA CASI or SACS CASI can rest assured that the school is committed to raising student performance and held accountable for improving student learning on a continual basis.

Accreditation means that students have:

Qualified teachers who are continually working to improve their practices and teaching methods in order to increase student performance

Access to a rich, diverse, and sound curriculum

Access to a range of student activities and support services

Transferability of credits from school to school

Greater access to federal loans, scholarships, post secondary education, and military programs that require accreditation

The school credits that students earn at an NCA CASI/SACS CASI accredited school are recognized by schools, colleges, and universities globally. Through AdvancED’s reciprocal agreements with sister accrediting organizations, students can continue their educational goals in the United States or around the world.”

Congrats to Miss Jan, the faculty and students at ACDS for a job well done.
